Webelos II Den Leader - Brian Shows
Webelos I Den Leader - Toni Merello
The Webelos program is a two year program for boys who are in the fourth and fifth grade or at least 10 years old. In both years, they work through activities centered around their advancement by earning activity badges and other awards. Each of the 20 activity badges focuses on a different subject in the areas of physical skills, mental skills, community, technology, and the outdoors.
Fourth grade boys work toward the Webelos badge. After earning the Webelos badge, boys work toward the Compass Point Emblem and Metal Compass Points as they earn additional activity badges. Fifth Graders, after earning the Webelos Badge, work to earn more activity badges and ultimately the Arrow of Light.
The name Webelos (pronounced WEE-buh-lows) comes from "WE'll BE LOyal Scouts." The Webelos program is a transitional program that shifts the emphasis from the home-centered activities of Tiger Cub and Wolf and Bear Cub Scouts to group-centered activities. It provides boys with a variety of new experiences that will help them assume responsibilities and gain maturity, knowledge, and skills. This is preparation for their later participation in the great adventure of Boy Scouting.
The Webelos Handbook tells about the Webelos activity badges and requirements for advancement to the Webelos badge and the Arrow of Light Award. The Webelos Handbook may be purchased at the Norwela Council Office (map) in Shreveport.
Webelos uniform, patches, and accessories are also available for purchase from the Norwela Council Office (map).
